The Olot Museums are closed to the public, following the directions of the Municipal Civil Protection Plan to prevent coronavirus infection.
The Garrotxa County Museum is located in the heart of Olot in the Hospici building, a neoclassical building dating from the late 18th century. Its exhibition halls trace the historical evolution of the county between the late 18th century and the mid-20th century. However, the most important part of the museum is devoted to the artistic activities in this period. The cornerstone of the collection is paintings from the Olot School, a famous landscape movement in Catalonia promoted by artists such as brothers Joaquim and Marian Vayreda and Josep Berga i Boix. The museum also displays the works of several artists from elsewhere, including Enric Galwey, Joan Llimona, Joan Brull, Joaquim Mir and Ramon Casas, the latter with the painting La Càrrega. Sculptors such as Ramon Amadeu, Josep Clarà, Miquel Blay and Leonci Quera are also represented and there is also a wonderful collection of Art Nouveau posters, Cigarrillos París.
After the reform of the Museum, inaugurated in April 2017, different proposals have been made for children's activities in the Museum aimed at the family audience:
- 3 permanent children's activities, in 3 rooms of the Museum: a table of light to play with the forms and the colours, an observation game with one of the posters of Cigarillos Paris and a set of constructions of sculptures in the style of Leonci Quera. These activities can be done freely during the visit to the Museum.
- A notebook of children's activities that is collected free of charge at the Museum reception with activities such as soups of letters, look for differences or solve questions related to the permanent exhibition.
This notebook is free and is performed as a free activity, it is available in Catalan, Spanish, English and French.
The notebook is accompanied by a notebook for the parents or companions with the solutions of the games and other proposals of activities to do with the children during the visit.
The Museum also offers free temporary exhibitions in the Sala Oberta, Sala Oberta 2 and Sala 15.
