Arcade and original wall of Portal de la Força

The vault in Carrer de la Força is an architectural singularity from the old town centre of Besalú. In the 9th century, there was a gate that gave access to the Visigoth alley of La Força. Later on, in the 11th century, when the castle was built, the walls were rebuilt to adapt them. It was then when the gate of La Força was opened. Today, we can still distinguish the vault and the remains of the original wall.
