Athletics Stadium

The Municipal Athletics Stadium Tossols – Bassil of Olot (1991-2001) is a place that has been very polemic and became a focal point of a fight against the ecologists and athletes. The result is a unique site where RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes managed to emphasise the already existing landscape elements. Located in the middle of an oakwood, the buildings perfectly interrelate with the surroundings thanks to the extension of walls and ramps which lead the way onto the tracks. The result is a big cover held by two orthogonal walls with a glass enclosure that gives a visual effect of continuity and, at the same time, reflects the forest. The architects responsible for this project were granted the prize FAD Architecture 2002.
