Museum Space of the Santa Margarida volcano

Description

Circular crater product of phreatomagmatic eruptive activity that occurred when the magma ascended and interacted with an aquifer in this place. Although it presents a volcanic cone and crater shape, this is misleading since one part of the crater is made of volcanic material and another is made of Eocene sedimentary rock from the pre-existing relief, broken due to the high explosiveness of this type of eruptions. There is a hermitage from the 11th century at the bottom of the crater.
