Rodona tower

Right next to Santa Maria church there is a called “the monastery” or “abbey” with a round Medieval tower, the only original element left of the old Benedictine monastery of Riudaura. Some experts think that it may have been a fortified construction. In fact, the monastery was founded by the count Guilfred of Girona-Besalú in 852 and it was precisely this monastery which gave rise to Riudaura's village. However, the monastery was destroyed by the 15th century earthquakes and only the small round tower was saved.
