Romeria quarter

Description

This quarter is the oldest one in Mieres and is already documented in 878 when Louis the Stammerer granted the privilege of Romzentila to Sant Esteve de Banyoles monastery. The old church of Santa Maria de la Romeria is located in the La Cellera de Mieres quarter and is a suffragan parish of Sant Pere de Mieres. It is a Romanesque construction that has been reformed at a later date. The first modification took place at the end of the 16th century, but halfway through the 18th century, it was completely reformed, which gave rise to the present building. Apparently, the quarter may have been located around La Cellera, which was the abbot's house. It is believed that the remains of an old construction found in the main square may be the ones of this house, La Cellera, which belonged to Sant Esteve de Banyoles monastery.
