Sant Aniol d’Aguja

Description

In this place there was the old Benedictine monastery of Sant Aniol d'Aguja. Nowadays, only the Romanesque church, dating from the 11th century, is preserved. Slightly altered, it still has an apse with some Lombardy arcatures. The gathering of Sant Aniol (Aplec dels Francesos) was an important tradition in the county and also in Northern Catalonia, as Marià Vayreda, a Catalan writer, narrates in his novel La Punyalada. Since 1962 it has a bell in honor of this novel, called Coralí.
