Sant Miquel del Mont church

Description

At the height of 793 metres, at the summit of the ridge of mountains also known as Sant Miquel del Mont, which separates the Valleys of Olot and Bianya, there is the Romanesque church of Sant Miquel del Mont. It was built in the 12th century, although the first dated historical reference, in the year 958, corresponds to the previous chapel. The building consists of one single nave with a slightly pointed barrel vault. The chancel, to the east, is formed by a semi-circular apse that has a one-paned window at the centre, which has been blocked on the outside. This spot offers a spectacular view of Alta Garrotxa and the Transversal range, from Puig de Bassegoda to Mont sanctuary.
