Sant Pere de Mieres church

The first documented references of Sant Pere de Mieres church date back to the year 866, when the King Charles the Bald signed a precept in favour of Sant Esteve de Banyoles monastery. The dependency of Sant Pere de Mieres to the Banyoles monastery was also clear at a later date, when documents signed by Louis the Stammerer and Charles III were found. However, in the later documents it only appeared mentioned as a church. It is believed that in this place a Romanesque temple was built, on top of which the present church was constructed in the 19th century. It is a single nave building with three sided chapels on both sides. In 1986 a wall of the graveyard was demolished and a piece of stone with remains of a sculpture on one side was found. The preserved element is the right upper part of a figure which may have represented Christ on the cross.
