The ancient Roman Road

Although we are not absolutely certain of it, in Castellfollit de la Roca, some remains, which could have been part of the ancient Roman road, have been discovered. Presumably, these remains could have been part of the Via Annia, a secondary branch of the Via Augusta, which connected Rome and Cadis. It would originate in Empordà and go up to La Garrotxa through Castellfollit de la Roca and Capsacosta hill (another element of this route).It would also cross the Pyrenees through Ares hill. Thus, it would not be strange that this route went by Castellfollit de la Roca, since the Romans used to build watch towers or make use of the existing ones near the roads. Therefore, the fact that this road went by Castellfollit de la Roca is plausibly possible, in that they used the hill as a natural viewpoint. It seems that this road crossed the actual centre, going by Sant Roc square, along Nou street, Fortí street until the Main Square, following Vell street until getting to the old church, going down to Toronell river.
