The Mezuzah

Description

The mezuzah is a piece of parchment inscribed with specified Hebrew verses from the Torah. It is kept inside a leather or metal cylinder and placed inside a hole by the doorway of some Jewish homes. The verses are from Deutoronomi 6:9 and 11:20. Nowadays, it is still found in some Jewish homes. In Besalú there are still three holes where the mezuzah was kept, all of them from the 13thcentury. They are in Carrer del Pont Vell (old bridge street) number 5, in Casa Astruc David found in Carrer del Portalet, and, in the same building, inside the present restaurant of the Cúria.
