La Vall de Bianya

Location

Description

The municipality is made up of several small villages spread about the region, most of which are built around Romanesque churches. This municipality also comprises the Vall del Bac and is located in the west part of the Alta Garrotxa, almost next to the comarca of Ripollès. In this valley we can find the creek of Bianya, one of the main branches of the river Fluvià. Going past Capsacosta, which connects the Vall de Bianya with Camprodon, we will find several remains of the old Roman road of Capsacosta, built more than 2000 years ago. As for the gastronomy, the speciality of the area is buckwheat, used to make farinetes, a typical local dish much appreciated in winter. In fact, in honour to this special product, the village celebrates the “Buckwheat Trade Fair” the first weekend of every February.
