Colltort church and castle

Description

This small stronghold, located in the western part of Sant Feliu de Pallerols, was a historic border between Colltort and Santa Pau valleys. This is the reason why the counts of Barcelona and Besalú fought so much over it during the 11th and 12th centuries. The castle is already mentioned in the will of the counts of Besalú, Bernat I de Tallaferro (1020 or 1021). In 1507 the count of Besalú gave the castle back to the count of Barcelona, who gave it to the lords of Hostoles. From then on, it was in the hands of several governors and militaries. In the 15th century it was occupied by the Remences, along with the castle of Hostoles. What makes it interesting is not its architecture, because it is in ruins, but its views. From the castle, we can admire La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park and some of its most characteristic volcanic cones.
